Together with some lovely friends from Furthermore I’ve helped to create Go Jauntly, a mobile app that helps people discover walks, create their own and share outdoor adventures with friends.

We are a group of nature-loving city workers who spend much of our time in front of a screen and wanted a change but also hates to go to the gym. Finding nice, new places to visit was hard, and the planning comes in the way of actually going outside. You can read more about our organization and mission here

We’ve had over 55k downloads and been selected as one of the Top 5 Lifestyle Apps in the world via The Webby Awards. We’re currently available in the UK and Swedish App Store but we’re working on being available in more places soon. Download Go Jauntly here.

As a group of human-centric design nerds we’ve followed our usual evidence-based approach and have mapped our target customer needs, wants, concerns, pain-points, and any questions they may have across the entire customer journey.

In August 2016 we won Vestd's "Ultimate Start-Up" title and received mentoring and got access to a whole world of creative collaborators. If you want to see me looking awkward in front of the camera you can see it here.  Following on from this in October 2016, we won a place on Ordnance Survey's funded accelerator programme Geovation, the innovation hub and incubator for Ordnance Survey who specialize in technology that has societal and environmental benefits.

During our year at Geovation we managed to actually launch our pilot and has since then grown massively. With over 55k downloads and collaborations with some of Londons biggest organizations like Fields in Trust, National Trust, Transport of London and Innovate UK we keep expanding out market and our app’s feature set. Next up; an Android version 🤖

The brand and identity of Go Jauntly

Through workshops we defined and refined Go Jauntly's tone of voice, personality and brand values to be open, encouraging, community-led and inspiring. Our branding aims to evoke the feeling of being outdoors, surrounded by blue skies, greenery and the colours of the changing seasons.

Interactions, hierarchy and UI

The users can swipe between walks that are ordered based on their current location. To look at a walk in more detail they swipe up. These mechanics allow users to preview walks before they head out. We offer users personalised collections of walks, an easy to use search, a walking map to finding their way around even of there are no walks there and a simple way to save walks they like and publish their own.

Each walk is made up of a number of steps and each step is presented with a photo and description. These are little nuggets of information that could be an interesting fact, handy hints on where to stop for refreshments or where to find a toilet! (we’ve all been there) Any walk or step can be seen on a map.

Content creation & Reaching an audience

One of the most important things about Go Jauntly is the content. So whilst designing and creating this product we've also spent many hours outside, taking photos and creating walks. It’s been a real eye-opening experience on how amazing nature is and how important it is for your mental health.

With over 1000 walks in app (and counting) we see that it’s not just us who feel that nature/walking rules.
